Community organizing builds the capacity and agency of people to create the change they need. Data is used in organizing, but civic data platforms currently do not reflect the relational model fundamental to organizing and democracy; they are primarily one-way, mobilizing technologies to turn out the vote or collect funds. For the past 3 years, we have co-developed and deployed alternative database and visualization systems in partnership with and values-aligned with community organizers. We are currently deployed in 3 learning communities and with 2 community organizing campaigns in the field and are evaluating the impact of such interventions.
